Focusing on blood flow: How we optimally monitor and protect mother and child.
Doppler Sonography: Precise Examination of Blood Flow
The Doppler sonography is a central component of modern prenatal diagnostics, where the resistances and blood flow velocities in maternal and/or fetal vessels are measured.
This allows for the assessment of the supply to the unborn child in the uterus. The blood flow measurement through Doppler sonography does not differ for the pregnant woman and the unborn child from a conventional ultrasound examination.
The additional information gained helps to initiate therapeutic measures in the case of a high-risk pregnancy or abnormal growth of the unborn child in a timely manner, or to estimate the optimal time for the child's birth.
